Summary
Reading Luke 1:52-53, Panagopoulos understands the casting down of rulers as Christ’s dethronement of Satan from the human heart and the raising of enslaved humanity. Satan’s strength has not altered in itself; rather, Christ’s victory and regenerative grace enable believers to resist him. Baptism and Chrismation renounce the adversary, implant grace, and arm every faculty for spiritual combat, yet freedom remains and the baptismal gift must be guarded through repentance, vigilance, humility, and continual invocation of Jesus’ name. Healings and exorcisms belong to the crucified Lord’s power, never to His servants as private possession. The scribes and Pharisees are displaced while humble Gentiles such as Cornelius, Longinus, and Eustathius receive the Gospel: the hungry are filled with truth, but custodians of the Law who reject Christ depart empty. Salvation therefore rests in Christ, while grace may be forfeited through the misuse of freedom.
