Summary
Greek Orthodox communities in North America face spiritual isolation, vast distances, language loss, and limited access to churches, saints, confession, and sound teaching. Personal, family, ecclesiastical, and national suffering is traced to sin, while sincere prayer and repentance can alter threatened outcomes, as shown by Hezekiah receiving fifteen additional years of life. Christ’s messages to the seven churches in Revelation offer hope because their failings were met repeatedly with the same remedy: repentance without despair.

Earlier we spoke briefly about the many people who come to meet us in this place, so that we may learn from experience, after all we have gone through and after the well-known accounts of the hardships and losses that were suffered.
Thank you. Throughout all this time, however, I have been giving talks. I do not mean that I was speaking to you, my beloved; I was speaking to other people. And because of what has happened to you, I would like to draw your attention to this point.
We may think that we are numerous, but there are many people in the world waiting for the Gospel. What especially troubles me is that we here, who have the churches and all these blessings, do not possess the attentiveness and spirituality that we ought to have. That is the sorrowful thing. If I were to remain with you and take part in the two periods of meetings being arranged for you—tomorrow, in September, and around the middle of July—we would need ten talks spread over two months.
As for the talks: there were twenty-six in Canada and America, sixteen in Aidipsos, and others near the Bulgarian, Yugoslav, and Turkish borders. Together with the other meetings and gatherings, they came to 138 talks. Since the day we parted, there has scarcely been a day when I have not been occupied with the subjects of these talks, and you can understand how greatly people have benefited. Indeed, the situation of these people would move even a heart of stone. We could never remain less than human before such suffering.
We would begin with one hundred people and end with one hundred and fifteen. Those who emigrated did not leave because they were religious people seeking a spiritual life. They left for money, for dollars, to improve their fortunes—with a suitcase in one hand and a wallet in the other. They left the Christian lands, Constantinople, and the holy places in search of material things, and found themselves in a vast wilderness. Two thousand people attended the previous time, and they were ready to listen to anything concerning Orthodoxy. You understand, then, what conditions our people have found there.
Something happens to them, and they do not even have a small vigil lamp with a little oil for anointing themselves. They may be tormented by demons, and...
They have no Saint to whom they can run, no place where they can seek deliverance; they feel forgotten and cannot even cry out, “My Most Holy Theotokos!” because there is nothing nearby. You understand, then, the need and the desperate situation of these people, and how deeply they are moved when they hear about these spiritual matters, even through the tiring means of modern communication. Imagine one of those two thousand people saying, “Lord, grant me the peace that I seek in You, for You alone are my refuge.” And consider the person responsible for them, who must labor all day, throughout the entire twenty-four hours, amid so many needs and responsibilities.
The question was asked: where is Orthodoxy to be found? I must tell you that a census was taken in which religions represented by only three people were recorded, yet the Orthodox Church did not appear in that census at all. You understand what a grave problem this is, especially when there are so many Greeks in eastern Canada. Chicago alone has 330,000 Greeks.
They began with only one gathering, and seventy percent were deeply moved. They returned to the churches, the churches filled again, and people began going to Confession. They began confessing things that had not been confessed—not only abroad, but even here in our own country. There are still regions where people do not know what Confession is.
You must travel thousands of miles, because the distances are immense. Unless a person has great strength of soul, he cannot endure such journeys. The time it takes me merely to reach Canada is nothing compared with what is needed to travel within Arizona, to reach places in Oregon, or to cross America.
Seven or eight hours—or even a week by train—to travel from one city to another. You understand: immense, frightening distances. And there you find people whose families have been away for two or three generations. You understand what that means. Then there is the difficulty of language: the children are sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, or twenty-five years old, and they do not know Greek.
Whatever little they learn, they learn from their father—and even that little is hardly learned. Since you do not know the language of the country, the language spoken abroad, you try to teach Greek in the schools. Yet the children go as though it were forced labor. No one has told them that this is the language of the Angels, the language of God, the language of the Gospel. You understand how great their need is and, I repeat, how difficult the task is for the person who undertakes to teach them what the true faith is. So many enticements are directed against Orthodoxy, including teachings that falsely present themselves as Orthodox. There is a notorious preacher in America who broadcasts throughout the country twenty-four hours a day. If you saw what they say and how they use Christ for material and worldly ends, you would shudder.
Whatever hour you turn on the television, day or night, you find sermons, sketches, promises, and tear-jerking scenes—all in the name of Christ. Do you believe me? I have had such scenes photographed from the television, and I will show them to you in the future. Let me describe one to you.
This, they claim, is the Gospel and the true faith—is that so? When the supposed miracle-working portion ended, the preacher came out and said the rest: “You must not forget that we are building a large hospital in such-and-such a place, and we need five million dollars every week. Up to now, we have succeeded in raising the five million each week.”
Then another broadcast begins, and I imagine that not one of you, whether listening or watching, would fail to send in a check. If what you see is genuine, dollars must be raining down upon him. But someone might ask: what is the deception? Ladies and gentlemen, you who claim to heal “every sickness and every infirmity”—who needs the hospital?
Everyone who passed before you supposedly rose from his bed. You fashioned new legs, gave sight to the blind, and even restored people’s teeth. Why, then, do you need a hospital, and what is all this money for? And why do you send money, if indeed you do? You understand how many devils you have to contend with there. In any event, I want to say only this: let us stop praying only for our own little grandson or granddaughter. Let our prayers turn toward the people who have not yet come to know God—both there and here. For even among us there are people close to us who still have not come to know Him.
I will quote a passage from the first chapter of Proverbs, beginning with verse 24, and I advise you to read it. I am certain that your life will change if you read from verse 24 onward, especially where it says: “Since you do not listen now, the time will come when you will cry out, and I will not answer you.”
Let me not quote the whole passage, for terrible things are said there. I am speaking to people who already believe certain things, because apart from beginners, others rarely gather in such a place. When a person comes to such a gathering, he must have something within him—whether little or much, there must be something. At this point I would like to tell you three things. What did I tell you the last time we parted? Even these beds and houses will collapse. You saw princes and the children of kings become beggars in a fraction of a second. They found themselves in tents and out on the roads. Then people announced: “We have now discovered machines that will tell us when an earthquake is going to happen.”
They say, “When it is about to happen, the machine will warn us so that we can go outside.” Do we imagine that we can escape from the hands of God? We cannot escape from the hands of God. What, then, can we do? We can unbind God’s hands—that is the point. We cannot escape Him; we must unbind His hands. Can a human being bind the hands of God or cause them to remain bound? He does so through his sins. The one thing God cannot do is help a person who refuses His help. Many of you who read Macarius the Great will have encountered the account of a man who once came to him in great need and begged for mercy. “Mercy!” he cried. And the Saint replied, “Neither I nor God can help you...”
“...unless you first show mercy to yourself.” My beloved, let us not look outside ourselves or blame others for our personal, family, social, or ecclesiastical misery. The misery and the sin are within us. That is what throws everything into disorder. As you constantly see in the streets, people shout and demand change because of political events. But change toward what—the worse or the better? Can people who remain the same bring about true change? It is not circumstances that first need to change; people must change, and then circumstances will change. Preach the transformation of people, not merely the transformation of things. If you have not changed the people, they remain exactly the same.
They remain sinful, useless, corrupt; they believe in nothing, they commit adultery without fear, and they refuse to repent and return—and yet they have achieved the greatest political victory. Why, then, do things still go badly? Because people do not change. If a man’s daily wage rises to two thousand drachmas, what will happen? If he had one mistress, he will have two. If he had no car, he will buy one. Yet we speak of changing and improving the world only in material terms. Are we really so badly off? We do not even work three and a half days a week. Do you realize that? I went to Aidipsos and set out to venerate at a monastery. On the way I saw the machinery used to build the road...
...They have been working on it for seventeen years, and they have not completed seventeen kilometers. The machinery was abandoned by the roadside. I said to the driver who was taking us, “Fortunately they are not working today, or they would have blocked the road and we would not have been able to pass.” He told me, “They finished work at noon on Friday, and they will return at noon on Tuesday. They will work half a day Tuesday, then Wednesday and Thursday, and until noon on Friday.” We work barely three and a half days out of seven, yet we say that we have nothing, that we are poor, that life is hard, and that we must seek improvement through material things.
We want to work for two days and spend the rest celebrating. How can that work? But that is not the real issue. Take note: I am not discussing politics. The issue is where we seek happiness. You imagine that happiness can be found there, but happiness is found close to God. If a person does not want God, then no matter what material things he acquires, how can he be happy? Sweden has the highest standard of living, yet statistics report more than two thousand suicides among young people. They had not even lived long enough to say, “We have enjoyed our life,” before destroying themselves. Why are they not satisfied? The answer is one word: God. If we had God, we could manage under anyone—even under the devil himself—because God would alter the course of events and turn circumstances to good.
Did the Holy Mountain suffer any harm? For four hundred years, under the Turks, the Most Holy Theotokos guarded it. Slavs, Romanians, and Moldavians are also there. Yet she protected the Holy Mountain and continues to protect its Christians today. During the Occupation, when the Bulgarians advanced and were about to enter, the monks hastened to place all the monasteries under Hitler’s protection. Mr. Hitler then telegraphed the Bulgarians: “Do not enter, or I will reduce you to dust within two hours.” They turned back and withdrew. Even now, if you have visited or should visit, you will see that the Holy Mountain has never been harmed.
An antichristian world, savage men—yet no one ever harmed it. There is still a firman of Mohammed, intact and bearing his own seal, which grants privileges to the Holy Mountain. There is also a complete decree of Napoleon the Great, granting the Mountain rights and forbidding anyone to harm it. What do these things teach us? When Christ, the Most Holy Theotokos, and Heaven put their signature to something, even all the diabolical powers in the world are compelled to serve God’s providence. Here we see fulfilled what Saint Paul writes in his First Epistle to Timothy. Yet many Christians do not read it and seek their happiness, moral well-being, prosperity, and advancement elsewhere.
In the second chapter of the First Epistle to Timothy, Saint Paul says: “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. For this is good and acceptable before God our Savior.” “For whom, Paul, should I pray? For the emperor, that Antichrist? For the officials and rulers of that time?” What sympathy could Paul have had for those emperors? None at all. Yet he tells us to pray for them.
Do not meddle in work that is not yours. Are you afraid that they will deceive you? They will deceive you, and you will fail by trying to outwit them. That is not your task. Your task is to pray. Yet this is precisely what we do: we try to provide all the solutions ourselves. And so, where we imagine that we are creating a solution, we create yet another failure.
Our days are such that the whole world has become agitated. People do not know what to do or what is to blame. I assure you that none of these outward things is to blame. Our way of life is to blame. Our sin is to blame. It is impossible for God to give us good people in the Church and in the state unless we repent. Greece has a debt to pay.
Greece has a debt to pay, and because it does not repent, Greece will be chastened. It will be chastened, and we too will be chastened as Greeks. Those who repent may still die, but they will depart in peace and salvation. Those who do not repent, however, and die through some violent event—an earthquake or a war—will face a terrible end. Therefore, I urge you not to be preoccupied with such events. What presses upon me this evening and compels me to speak in this way is that, unfortunately, the world today is not returning to God as it should.
When I continue to sin, when I continue to blaspheme, when my spouse and I continue to kill our children, when I do not bring the life of Christ into my home, when I bring sinful, dishonest, or stolen things into it, when my speech is not what it ought to be and my outward conduct is not Christian—when I call myself a Christian while smoking, gambling, blaspheming, and doing all these things—what can I expect?
Please, pray for our young people, pray concerning our transgressions, pray for our Church, our rulers, and our teachers. Pray that they may depart from delusion and escape these evil days and destruction. God will receive these prayers and show that, although justice demands one thing, for the sake of those who pray He may grant something different.
This is precisely why calamities foretold for a certain time are held back. Authors write, calculate, and declare, “In such-and-such a year this will happen,” and then it does not happen. Why? Prayers intervened, and it did not happen. But for how long can this continue? Someone may say, “If God enlightened a Saint and revealed a definite time, how can it fail to happen? Can God make a mistake?” God does not make mistakes, but people change.
By the way we live, we cause God to deal with us differently from how He had been disposed to deal with us up to that point. There is another detail. When the Prophet Isaiah announced Hezekiah’s death, he went to him and said, “Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order, for you shall die. Make your will”—as we would say—“because you are dying.” Then Isaiah left. “Thus says the Lord”: that means it was signed and sealed. What happened? Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, prayed, and wept. Isaiah had already gone when God spoke to him again: “Return and tell him that I am adding fifteen years to his life.”
This is why dates can be canceled. The events themselves, however, are not canceled. What did not happen today will happen tomorrow if there is no metanoia, no repentance. But if there is repentance, it is erased completely; it disappears altogether. It costs God nothing to prove every prediction wrong, provided that people desire to be saved. In this sense, I am the one who determines how God deals with me, rather than God forcing me, because God answers according to a person’s inner condition. You may ask God about something today, and God will answer you. God neither lies nor makes mistakes, nor is He ignorant. Yet you may go another day and ask Him about the same matter, and He may answer differently.
You may say, “You told me something different before. Why are You telling me something else today?” Because today your inner disposition is different. God answers you according to what is within you. His word to you corresponds to your inner condition. I would like to make this very clear, because I know that many of you become intensely preoccupied with religious matters and go from one spiritual father to another, seeking confirmation of something the first one told you because it seemed unreasonable or too hard to bear. You ask another spiritual father about the same matter and receive a different answer. If you go to a third, you will receive another answer; and if you go to a fourth, yet another. Why? Because spiritual fathers answer on God’s behalf according to the condition and distortion of your own approach. That is why a person must receive with simplicity what his spiritual father has told him.
I recently met someone, and do you know what he told me? “Mr. Panagopoulos, everything is now hanging by a very fine thread. One snap, and all is lost. That is all that remains.” Yet I believe, and this does not frighten me.
If there is metanoia, repentance, the matter can still be set right. But you may ask: if everything has fallen so low, if nothing is left and all has been utterly corrupted, how can it be brought back to life? And yet there is an ineffable assurance from our Christ. You will find it in the tenth chapter of Matthew. Do you know what He says there?
A reed. “A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench.” Do you know what this means? Suppose a person, a condition, a whole life—whatever it may be—has become like a reed lying in the road, crushed beneath the wheel of a cart. If you try to lift it, it will break; it cannot stand. Yet He will not destroy the bruised reed. He will make it new again.
“Smoking flax” means a lamp whose flame has gone out and whose smoke catches in your throat. He will breathe upon it and kindle it again. Even if the human soul has become like this—crushed by sins and made filthy in God’s sight by sins—it is enough that the person should desire to be healed. Some will now object: “Then why does God, who is rich in mercy, who is all love, not do this? Why does He not heal the soul?” A person must understand that God will not do what the person himself does not desire. God is almighty, but He will not violate the freedom and dignity He has given the human person. No calculations or computers could ever tell us how mighty God is.
Let me offer a human illustration. In a fraction of a second, in the twinkling of an eye, God could dissolve everything that exists—heaven, earth, stars, galaxies, angels, archangels, human beings, everything. He could dissolve it all and recreate it billions of times greater, better, and more perfect. He has no weakness there; I am speaking in human terms. Yet this almighty God, who can perform wonders that make the human nous, the spiritual intellect, reel, will not remake a person without that person’s cooperation. God desires the human person to work together with Him. To the degree that a person desires God, God lives and acts within him. If the person does not desire Him, God does not force Himself upon him.
So set aside all these plans. Everything depends on our own metanoia—our repentance. My dear friends, no human being is without sin. We imagine that there were Saints only in the early days and that humanity has now fallen away. But every age is more or less the same. Indeed, the prevalence of homosexual relations when Christ came into the world was unparalleled. Think of how Saint Paul found it necessary to write about this in his Epistle to the Romans. Yet Christ saves the human person, provided there is repentance. This is what I want: repentance not merely in words, as I keep saying, but in deeds. Whatever I have been doing until today, I stop doing, and from now on I do Your will. I will do what You tell me,
whether or not it makes sense to me, and whether or not my own strength is sufficient. For if I do something by my own strength, what merit is there in that? Did Saint Paul not ask to be healed? What was wrong with his request? After journeying across the whole world so many times, did he not deserve at least to be able to stand upright? What was wrong with that? Yet Christ did not grant him even this, so that His power might be revealed: “For My strength is made perfect in weakness.” All this has remained foreign to us, because we want a Christianity based on bargaining: “I will do this for You if You do that for me. If You do this for me, I will do that for You. If You do not do this for me, I will do nothing for You.” But that is not Christianity; it is a transaction. Even in our spiritual labor, we want the same arrangement. Nevertheless, we do not cease to be guilty.
I want to help and console both you who are hearing me directly and those who will later hear this through the recordings being made and distributed on these tapes. I would like to tell you this: at home, quietly read the first three or four chapters of the Apocalypse, especially Christ’s correspondence with the bishops of the seven Churches of Asia Minor. Have you ever read it? Did you know that Christ sent letters to the bishops of those Churches in Asia Minor? Open the Apocalypse at the second chapter, and there you will find things that will bring you great consolation. Those men were not all without fault either.
They too had their failings. Yet the remedy Christ prescribed for each one was repentance. Never despair, whatever may happen. In the Apocalypse, chapter two, verse one, I read: “To the angel of the Church of Ephesus write.” This means the bishop. Christ dictates to John the Theologian, and John the Theologian acts as His secretary, writing the letter to the bishop of the Church of Ephesus. Christ tells him many things: what he is doing, what is good in him, and what is wrong. After listing his good deeds, He continues: “Nevertheless, I have this against you.” In other words: I hold something against you; you are not without sin, “because you have left your first love.”
You are not as fervent as you once were. “Remember therefore from where you have fallen”—how high you once stood and how far you have descended—and then He adds: “Repent, and do the first works.” What else am I to do? “Repent, and do the first works; or else”—if you do not repent and change your life, because an outward show of repentance is worthless. Repentance must be shown in deeds: if I stole, I return what I took; if I defrauded someone, I make restitution; if I lied, I ask forgiveness and confess it; if I slandered someone, I humble myself to the ground before him. “Do the first works; or else I will come to you quickly,” and “remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.” He does not demand that the man pay for his sins; He asks him to repent. That is repentance.
This is how a person now presents himself before God. Of the seven bishops, only two are not urged to repent, because Christ found them in relatively good condition. To the other five He points out the need for repentance. In the bishop of Smyrna, for example, He found no faults. He had his own trials. Read these passages quietly at home, so that I do not take up your time. To the bishop of the Church of Pergamum, Christ writes about his particular condition. He tells him both the good he possesses and what is wrong with him: “Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans.” You have certain people among you whom you failed to correct, and they hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans. “Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and…”
“…will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.” In this case too, He asks for repentance. The bishop of the Church of Thyatira has his own failings. Christ speaks of a certain woman, whom the bishop obviously knew, who was committing sexual immorality and whom he should have corrected as required. Christ says: “I gave her time to repent”—not time to pay for it. She commits fornication; can fornication be paid for? She commits adultery; can adultery be paid for? She engages in homosexual acts; how can that be paid for? “I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she is unwilling to repent.” She refuses to stop this sin. “Indeed, I will cast her into a sickbed,”
“and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds.” I move on to the bishop of the Church of Sardis. Christ speaks about his condition and continues: “Remember therefore how you have received and heard”—what you received and what you heard—“hold fast and repent. Therefore, if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief”—I will come without your realizing it—“and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.” In the bishop of Philadelphia He found nothing blameworthy, so He says nothing against him. Then He turns to the angel of Laodicea, that is, its bishop, to whom He says a great deal. In fact, we have given a special talk about the bishop of Laodicea; those of you who have it should listen to that talk. Christ tells him: “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous”—show earnest concern—“and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” If you hear and open the door, I will be able to set you right; if not, woe to you. Holding fast, then, to this whole sequence, to this scriptural picture, as we might call it, I see that there is still hope for the human person, provided he comes to his senses. The present days are not favorable; the times are not favorable. For many years now we have been threatened on every side. By a miraculous providence, God has held these powers in check, and the catastrophe has not yet occurred. Now we are also beginning to become entangled in conflict with one another, and then woe to us.
What will become of us, and what will we do, if we refuse to correct ourselves and beseech God to illumine the leaders on every side, so that nothing so grave befalls us? Before I close, and out of a sense of duty toward this ministry I carry out, I would like to share with you an account that came into my hands. It came
into my hands in the form of a prophecy sent to me from London. It had evidently reached London through Cypriots living there, because the prophecy originated in Cyprus and was given through a local Saint, known as Saint Kendeas, who also has a women’s monastery there bearing his name. A few days after I received this prophecy from London, where it had apparently been circulated,
another printed text reached me, speaking of the same events and coming from the Holy Mountain. From the inscription I saw that it had been sent by Father Emmanuel Malliaros, the brother of Iakovos, the bishop of Mytilene. He lives at a hermitage on the Holy Mountain, pursuing the ascetic life there. He had been a senior bank employee, but once he received his pension, he left for the Holy Mountain. You know that many people have recently left here for the Holy Mountain—radiant and well-educated men. Most recently, Mr. Michalis also left. He had been a police director, and now he too is going there. People met him on the boat sailing from here to the Holy Mountain.
Only a few iconographers and laborers remain here. The world has become unbearable. Spiritual people are leaving, one after another, while we turtles and crabs remain behind, as you know. Let us pray, then, because they are praying. From midnight until seven in the morning the Holy Mountain is covered in prayer. From midnight until seven in the morning Mount Athos keeps vigil, and the monks rest for only two hours in the afternoon. They are the ones still sustaining us; for their sake, God has truly not swept us away yet. I will therefore read you this prophecy given to the nun through Saint Kendeas. It mentions dates, but I will pass over them, because the dates are not the point. They may be fulfilled, or they may not. That is not what matters. What matters is that everyone can see something is brewing around us and that people must repent. That is the sole reason I am telling you this. I am not concerned with what else it may predict. Listen, then. A few days
before the invasion of 1974, before the Turks entered Cyprus, a nun there saw Saint Kendeas in a dream. He told her that the Turks would very soon come to our island to plunder it and slaughter many people. “But they will not harm you. Therefore, do not abandon my monastery.” He said this to a nun of the monastery dedicated to him.
Later, it says, Saint Nektarios told a nun of his monastery, “I will be your protector.” The same nun then relates the following: “I saw Saint Kendeas in a dream, and he told me to persuade the Christians to repent, because if they did not listen, you would all be slaughtered by the Turks. But when I awoke, I said nothing to anyone. Ten days later…”
“He asked whether I had told the people what he had said to me. Naturally, I answered no. Then the Saint explained why. ‘Father,’ I said to him, ‘whom am I supposed to tell?’ He answered, ‘Tell everyone, and do not stop telling them.’ Once again I said nothing to anyone. Five or six days later, I again saw the Saint in my sleep, rebuking me. ‘Tell the people to repent,’ he said. ‘Did I not tell you to tell the people to repent? Why do you not listen? By 1981 the appointed time of repentance has come. Do you understand?’ Then I awoke. I told my dream to only a few Christians. About a week later, I dreamed again that I was standing at the monastery enclosure, looking toward Limassol.”
“There is no obstacle between the monastery and Limassol. I saw the center of Limassol filled with Turkish soldiers. Entire families had been slaughtered in the streets, which were strewn with corpses still soaked in fresh blood. I was immediately startled. My watch showed four in the morning, and I said to myself, ‘What is this? Has war broken out just now, and have the Turks slaughtered half of Limassol?’ I ran to wake the sisters so that we could pray and ask for God’s mercy. While all the sisters were praying on their knees, an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and said to me, ‘Why are you crying out?’ I answered, ‘Our enemies are pounding on the monastery door, and you still ask me why?’ The angel immediately approached the sisters and said to the first one”
“—whose mouth had meanwhile become twisted from fear—‘In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.’ At once, the sister’s soul departed and ascended into heaven.” In other words, those who could not endure martyrdom would die, but they would be saved. “Then the angel approached the second sister and did the same. Afterward he came to me and asked, ‘What will you do? Will you endure martyrdom, or will you die in the same way as these sisters?’ I began to say, ‘I want to endure martyrdom,’ but then I stopped. I thought that the Turks were immoral and that I might be violated. The angel then said to me, ‘Think about it while you still have time,’ and ascended into heaven. I related my dream to many people, and some of those who heard me cursed me,”
“saying that I was terrifying the people.” That is what I have been saying. How else can anyone speak of such things? If he speaks carefully, he is not terrorizing people; he is warning them. A person should simply continue fulfilling his duties. If he is married, let him raise his children. If he is employed, let him work. If he is a Christian, let him pray, repent, and change his life—that is what this account says. He is not to stop working. Is that terrorizing anyone? Is he supposed to hide away and stop all work and progress?
“Afterward,” she continues, “I became deeply distressed and said to myself, ‘Why did I tell these things to people who dislike hearing such matters?’ Two or three nights later, I again saw the Saint looking sorrowful, and he said to me, ‘Did you tell the people to repent?’ ‘Yes,’ I answered. He then said, ‘No one believed you. Tell them that they have until 1981 to repent. Shortly before the middle of 1982, all the Christians of Cyprus will be slaughtered by the Turks.’ I then thought to myself, ‘Why should the Turks be so powerful that they can keep slaughtering Christians? Is God perhaps more pleased with the Turks than with us?’ At once, the Saint”
“understood my thought and rebuked me for it, saying, ‘Do not blaspheme. The Christians are the wheat, and the Turks are the oxen. Through the slaughter that the Turks will carry out, the Lord of the threshing floor wishes to gather the wheat into His storehouse. After this slaughter of the Christians, the Lord will burn Cyprus from one end to the other, cleansing His threshing floor of thistles and thorns.’ Then I thought, ‘I came from Chios to help save Cyprus, and now we will all be burned together. Why did I, foolish woman that I am, not remain on Chios?’ She was evidently from Chios. Again the Saint answered me, ‘Chios too will be lost, and all the islands of Greece will be lost.’ I said, ‘What will happen, then? Will Constantinople also be taken?’”}]}1 end product isn't what was asked, user wanted JSON array but system response format forced object. Need only final, no extra. Already output. The Saint did not answer me. There is more. But I would like to tell you something here...
Regarding Cyprus, which he says will be burned, and so forth: at the Great Panagia Monastery in Jerusalem, there is a Cypriot nun who is deeply grieved by what is happening in her homeland. The poor woman is sorrowful and tormented by it. Day and night she remains on her knees, praying to Christ to help her homeland. Then Christ appears to her and says, “Do not pray to Me for your homeland. Your homeland has abandoned Us, and We have abandoned it.” The words struck her like a thunderbolt and left her speechless. “It has abandoned Us, and We have abandoned it.” And do you know what else He said? “I cannot appoint even one priest from there. They are all...” Do you know why? A man even receives his wife’s engagement pledge through the political parties. What happens here, unfortunately, also happens there. “I cannot appoint even one priest,” says our Christ, who is Greek.
The nun from the Great Panagia Monastery related these things to me. “A great calamity will come,” she says. “It will spread throughout the whole world, and God will preserve the strong defenders of Orthodoxy so that they may struggle against the Antichrist. After the struggle against the Antichrist, the Lord will destroy the earth with fire, which will be kindled from its four corners. Those slaughtered by the Turks will be considered more blessed than those who survive into the time of the Antichrist. For they will endure so many torments that, without hesitation, they will call blessed those who had the good fortune to die beforehand, without facing what they themselves are destined to suffer at the hands of the Antichrist.” He stressed to me once more that I must urge the people to repent so that they will not perish, saying: “Tell the Christians that if they do not repent, shortly before the middle of 1982 they will all be slaughtered by the Turks. And tell everyone—do you understand? Tell them that you have until 1981 as a time for repentance. Time is limited and precious.”
“Do not waste it needlessly. You must not lose it, because you will not be given another time for repentance. Tell all the Christians to repent.” I awoke and saw Saint Anastasios beside me, looking deeply sorrowful, but I had no time to ask him another question. Regardless of the dates, I thought I should also tell you this account, which has been circulating and which reached me, in this form, from England and from the Holy Mountain. We shall stop here for tonight. You have understood, more or less, the spirit of what I am saying. I pray that God will have mercy on us—and He will have mercy on us if we repent. Let us make our Confession and return to Him.

Έρχεται και άλλη εκπομπή και νομίζω ότι κανένας δεν θα είναι από εσάς, ακροατής ή θεατής, που δεν θα στείλει την επιταγή του. Αν πράγματι είναι αλήθεια αυτά που φαίνονται, θα δείτε ότι έρχονται βροχή σ' αυτόν δολάρια. Ποιο το πτήμα, θα πει κανείς. Παρακαλώ, κυρίες και κύριοι, εσύ που κάνεις «πάσα νόσο και πάσα μαλακίαν» καλά, ποιοι χρειάζονται το νοσοκομείο;
Αν υπάρξει μετάνοια, το θέμα και πάλι θα τακτοποιηθεί. Μα, εφόσον έχει φτάσει τόσο κάτω, εφόσον δεν έχει μείνει τίποτα, έχει πολυφαδιαστεί το παν, πώς είναι δυνατόν αυτό να ζωοποιηθεί; Και εντούτοις, υπάρχει μια άρρητη διαβεβαίωση του Χριστού μας. Θα τη βρείτε στο δέκατο κεφάλαιο του Ματθαίου. Ξέρετε τι λέγει εκεί;
