Summary

Saint Panteleimon refutes the claim that Christianity is for failures by showing how an accomplished physician united scientific knowledge with wholehearted faith in Christ. Every person is created not merely for education or professional success but for holiness, deification, and eternal communion with God through sincere repentance. Christians should honor those called to monastic life, recognize the renewed vitality of Mount Athos, and prepare through obedience and repentance for Christ’s coming.

Fathers and beloved brothers in Christ, I ask your forgiveness for accepting this invitation to say a few words about this feast, and especially about the person who is the reason for our celebration.

Anyone concerned with matters of faith can draw many lessons from the person whom we especially celebrate today: the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon. As you know, our Lord and His religion are accused of being, supposedly, for failures. He is said to be the leader of people who have no standing in the world. In other words, they claim that Christianity has only support troops and no soldiers on the front line.

But for those who pay attention, things are not like that. Here comes an accomplished man, as we would say today—a physician and a scientist—who proves the opposite. He is an argument in our hands which, if we are attentive, we can put forward. We must understand that Christ is not concerned with a person's learning, degrees, or credentials. Christ is concerned with the human heart.

As the prophet says, He did not ask for the human intellect but for the heart, saying through the writer of Proverbs, “My son, give me your heart.” The Fathers say that the nous, the spiritual intellect, is in the pay of the heart: it is paid and bought by the heart. And woe to the person whose heart is not pure. Our Lord has with Him people of every worldly station, as we might say, from the palace to the stable, from the most learned to the simple and uneducated. He begins with the highly educated Apostle Paul and reaches all the way to a stable and Saint John the Russian. He begins with the supremely wise and learned Saint Catherine and reaches even the humblest and simplest of people. This, then, proves that Christ does not dwell in people's intellects, but in their hearts. Blessed is the person who gives his heart to Christ. That is the hardest thing of all. A person can give everything except his heart. Sadly, he always keeps something in reserve, as we say.

Then Christ does not take charge. Christ takes charge only where people give themselves to Him completely. Those who give themselves to Christ are sealed by Christ and endure into eternity. All the great figures who have passed through this world without living according to Christ survive only in the memorials held for them.

They are gone, and if they are still discussed, it is merely as figures of history. They do not move the heart; their names and their lives have no power to offer an example, to help others, or to guide them toward eternity. No matter who a person may be in the world, and no matter how great a name he may acquire, if he does not bear the seal of Jesus, time will erase him and wipe him away. But no matter how unknown a person may be in the world, if he bears the seal of Jesus, he has the strength to pass into eternity. What need did this saint, the physician Panteleimon, have of Christ? What need did he have? Today scientists boast in their science. They rely on it and hold it up for all to see. And we constantly stop and ask, “Which university did this man graduate from? What diploma does he hold?”

“What course of study did he follow?” On that basis, we decide whether to follow him, listen to him, or imitate him. But things are not like that. Simple and humble people understand that the center of gravity lies in the soul, not in the intellect, and that whatever talent they possess is not their own but was given by God. They lay it at God's feet, and both the talent and the person who possesses it are blessed; and thus they endure into eternity. As long as the world exists, people will speak of this physician. Sadly, most people today do not believe that science comes from God.

Yet medicine too comes from God, and medicines themselves come from God. I am reminded, as you surely are, of the beautiful words spoken by the Holy Spirit through the Wisdom of Sirach: “Give the physician his place, for the Lord created him also.” And, “The Lord created medicines from the earth, and a sensible man will not reject them.” This is what the Wisdom of Sirach says in chapter 38—that is, what the Holy Spirit says through the Wisdom of Sirach. Yes, these things come from God and must be used for the glory of God. This blessed man did not see the human being merely as matter;

he also saw him as spirit. He was not only a physician of bodies, but also a physician of souls. He always sought to heal the cause and remove its effects. Today, however, the exact opposite is done, even though Holy Scripture gives the clear instruction: “Is anyone among you sick? Let him first call for the priests,” without, of course, rejecting physicians. Blessed is the person who sees that he is not only flesh. Blessed is the person who sees that he is also spirit, and that the flesh is often sick because the spirit is sick; the body is sick because the soul is sick. This was the discernment attained by the man we celebrate this evening. He received the seal of Jesus and abides forever.

Sadly, as you know, things have been reversed today. Christ has been cast out. Modern man does not accept Christ or the wisdom of Christ. He does not accept God as his counselor, nor the saints as examples to imitate. He has reached the point of creating a demon-possessed humanity, ruled by Satan, while taking credit for achievements that are nothing other than gifts from Christ. Yet they were given so that Christ our God might be glorified and so that man might recognize what he truly is: small in comparison with all that exists. Physicians ought to be the most faithful of people, because every day they have before them the record of creation.

A surgeon, for example, ought to be the most faithful person in the world. Yet surgeons are often heard during an operation blaspheming Christ and the Most Holy Theotokos, because the patient's body does not respond as they need it to for the operation to succeed, and because a possible failure would affect their careers. So they blaspheme Christ, the Most Holy Theotokos, and the saints. They blaspheme the Creator, whom they ought to see coming to their aid at that very moment. They cut through the edges of the flesh and cast them aside, yet they ought to see that someone is immediately set to work, hastening to heal what has been operated upon. They see God still creating.

There ought to be no unbelieving physician, though I do not mean to deny that faithful physicians exist. Yet an enormous proportion are unbelievers who place their faith in their science, their scalpel, and their own cleverness. The physician we celebrate today proves the opposite. It is no disgrace for a person to lay at the Creator's feet what he has borrowed, because all these things are on loan. Knowledge is on loan, skills are on loan, and every talent given to a person—whether science, art, invention, or anything else—comes from God and must be directed toward God. That is why the divine John Chrysostom says, “To remember a saint is to imitate a saint.” The saints are held before us

not so that they may rise any higher, just as they cannot fall any lower. They received their place on the day they fell asleep in the Lord. They were set in the spiritual firmament and became the spiritual stars of Paradise, together with the sun, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the moon, the Most Holy Theotokos. They neither rise nor fall. We are edified when we call them to mind, recount their lives, and set them before our eyes. We are edified, of course, if we truly desire to be edified. What if Saint Panteleimon had remained far from Christ? He would have succeeded according to the world, but he would have failed in eternity. My beloved, Christ is indispensable to every person, every intellect, and every science.

Blessed are those who understand the matter in this way, because the purpose of a person's coming into the world is not to become a scientist or to remain uneducated. Whether he becomes one or not, he has achieved nothing by that alone, because one day, just as he brought nothing with him, he will take nothing away. His degree will remain here, hanging on some wall, perhaps in a fine frame, to be dusted from time to time—or perhaps never dusted at all. Was that all? Was an immortal human being created merely for that? Is that why he came into the world? No. The purpose of man and of his coming into the world is to become a saint, to become God by grace. This may sound excessive to some of us who have not grasped the matter, but this is how it is: “Become saints!”

The commandment is that we become saints. “But I am earth and mud, a creature made from dust. Am I to become a saint, to become God by grace?” Yes, because He wills it. Why do you speak with false humility? He Himself wills it. Since He wills it, what else is there to trouble you?

What can hinder you when He comes and tells you, “I will make you God by grace. I will place you beside Me; you will reign with Me and dwell near Me. I am going to prepare a place, and I will return to take you with Me”? Why are you offended? Why do you speak with false humility? Why do you refuse the honor? You cannot comprehend it; it makes you dizzy, and yet this is the truth. This is the truth. Have you ever examined yourself to see what He has made you?

What are you? You have not found the answer. You stand before a mystery. And yet you are a human being; that is what you are. So, just as your present existence is a mystery, yet you accept that you exist, that it is real, and that you possess and experience it, in exactly the same way you are called to accept the other mystery as well. How does it happen? How does the Creator take dust into His hands and fashion it? That is His concern. We cannot understand it. Even if we wished to understand and He revealed to us how it happens, we still could not comprehend it. We were not made to know everything; we were made to believe. But because we have not believed—and we have not believed because we have not laid aside our pride—these things remain foreign to us.

The human being...

if he were to ask Christ to give him eyes to see what a human being truly is, ought to weep day and night. He should do nothing else but weep day and night. “My God, You would do this?” “Yes, I would.” “And what must I do?” “Nothing. Simply let Me act, and only be willing. You need do nothing; you need not weary yourself. I will give you everything and place everything within you. I ask only that you say, ‘I am willing, Lord.’” And yet this “I am willing” is difficult for a person to say. The moment he says it, everything is resolved and put in order. But there is also the adversary, the enemy, the cunning one. There is also that one who has 7,500 years of experience behind him,

who comes and shakes a person's faith. At one moment he portrays man as a lion and all the rest—as a god, a creator, a conqueror who rules everything at the touch of a button. At another, he portrays man as nothing, as a worm and mere dust, claiming that God, if He even exists, could have no relation to such a worthless creature. Both portrayals are false. Blessed is the person who will humble himself and ask Christ to reveal the reason for his existence: where he came from, why he came, and where he is going. The person who resolves this threefold question has attained the Promise. If we seek true wisdom...

We shall gain this wisdom if we ask for it and He grants it to us: the wisdom to understand what He has done for us and what He continues to do for us, for each one individually and for all of us together. I say it again: humanly speaking, we would be beside ourselves, and day and night we would remain humble, weeping and giving thanks for the indescribable things He has done for us. May there be no one among us who says that he is too sinful and therefore cannot attain this promise. No, let no one say that. Such a thought does not come from the Spirit. Christ is the One who receives everyone. So long as there is sincere metanoia—sincere repentance—the matter is resolved.

Even if I were to take upon myself every sin, from Cain the brother-slayer to the last evil person of every age throughout the world, one act of sincere metanoia—sincere repentance—would be enough to wipe them all away, to help me, set me right, and place me at the right hand of the Lord. Here, within His Church, Christ has left us fitting examples, visible to the devout person, which help him. Everything speaks of our salvation, both what is above and what is below. A little earlier I saw this great chandelier being lit,

which calls to mind the Church Triumphant; and below I see the candle stands with their burning candles, symbolizing and calling to mind the Church Militant. Above, I see a beautifully adorned Royal Door, with the Most Holy Theotokos, the Virgin, on the right, just as David saw her a thousand years before Christ: “The queen stood at Your right hand”; and I see our Lord Jesus Christ, who calls all people and says, “Look to Me.” Someone once asked, “That veil which was torn in the Temple of Solomon—the first miracle when Christ died outside the camp, on Golgotha—how wide must that opening have been?

For the Royal Door is that very opening made when the veil was torn: it broke through the barrier raised by sin and united God with man. The answer was that the opening was wide enough for even the most sinful person in the world to pass through it. Therefore, no one can say that there is no salvation for him because he is too sinful. There was only one Panteleimon, only one Forerunner, only one John Chrysostom, only one Saint Catherine, only one Saint Syncletica—only one of each... No! The commandment is, “Become saints.” We can all become saints. We have no other purpose. Woe to the person who

thinks he came to earth for any reason other than to become a saint. How wisely all these things were established through the Holy Spirit by the Holy Fathers! When we enter here, our nous—the spiritual intellect—is immediately reminded that we must pass through this beautiful Royal Door. Why is it called the beautiful door? Because the person who enters through it is setting out toward the Kingdom of Heaven. The old Adam and the old Eve, who closed the way to the tree of life and were cast out, were replaced by the new Adam and the new Eve, who opened the way and made beautiful the path to the Kingdom of Heaven. There is no other road, brothers, except through the Church and by means of the Church.

Man will return to Paradise. How? “Make me once again a citizen of my homeland, Paradise.” This is the destiny of everyone. “I too have found the way through repentance.” There is no other way. And especially here, in this holy church founded in honor of the leader of repentance, the honorable Forerunner, his life and everything else proclaim these same words today. You must not abandon this thought even for a moment. Here, at Pascha, the reconciliation takes place; here the creature meets his Creator. There, at the Royal Door, the earth of which man is made is transformed and becomes spirit. The temporal becomes eternal; the earthly becomes spiritual. From there he is received when Christ is offered in Holy Communion and transforms His creature.

He becomes spiritual and enters through there. He becomes Christ’s brother. This is expressed most beautifully when the priest comes out with the Holy Chalice and the Holy Gifts for Communion and says, “Save, O Lord, Your people, and bless Your inheritance.” What is this inheritance? It is the people who have partaken of the Body and Blood of Jesus, who have become Christ’s brothers and fellow heirs of God. For the Kingdom belongs to the Father, but through Christ, who is the only heir by nature, we too become heirs. Yes, these thoughts are essential for everyone who wishes, when the curtain falls on this temporary life, to pass into eternity. Beloved, we did not come here simply to live; that is a delusion. We came to die, and we die in order to live. Man...

is not a permanent inhabitant of the earth, as our educated people say, but only a tenant; and one day, at an unexpected hour, he will be served notice to leave. Woe to him if he is not ready to say, “Behold, here I am, Lord,” as John did when he heard Christ say in the Apocalypse, “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me,” and had the boldness to reply, “Yes, come, Lord Jesus. I am ready.” God has shown you mercy by bringing you to this Holy Mountain, whose very name proclaims holiness, where you struggle day and night so that you may be found worthy at the hour of the Savior’s coming. This is my humble prayer.

May He preserve this zeal in you. May the honorable Forerunner and the Most Holy Theotokos provide for your weaknesses. May Saint Panteleimon heal the illnesses of your bodies, insofar as God permits and insofar as this will benefit the salvation of your souls. And please give me your prayers as well, so that I may live the remainder of my life as I should. Amen. Holy Elder, venerable Fathers, and beloved brothers in Christ, here on the Holy Mountain there is a principle called obedience. Indeed:

“Obedience is life; disobedience is death.” In obedience, then, although I do not consider myself the proper person to speak about the saint of the day, the founder of this monastery, or Saint Paul, who is also celebrated there today, allow me, I say, in obedience, to present to your love and forbearance a few things that may help those who desire to be helped. You know, there is a negative view of monasticism in the world, and it is by no means uncommon. There is no...

particularly favorable view of it. There is a negative view of the Holy Mountain as well; again, no particularly favorable view. For the most part, the world tries to present Christianity as something for failures, and monastic life especially as something for failures. Of course, there are people who admit that among monastics there are both successful people and failures. But that is not something we need to discuss at this moment. Those of us who walk here on the Holy Mountain can see that accomplished people have gathered around and supported it.

Here, for example, is a building founded by one king, and farther down are buildings founded by other emperors. So there have been people of distinction who discerned that something profound lay within this institution. They themselves put on the monastic schema, died, and have even entered the ranks of the saints of the Church. People venerate them, light candles before them, bend the knee, and perhaps even shed tears. As we walk through these holy places, this gives us an opportunity, if our understanding is mistaken, to form a right understanding: monasticism too is a part of the Church, and indeed its finest part.

For Christ is the One who gives grace and brings about everything that is accomplished. Christ is concerned with the hearts of people, not with how much they know. He is concerned with what is within, not with outward appearances. That is why we see among His servants everyone from those in palaces to those in the humblest hut, from royal children to the lowliest laborers, from a princess such as Saint Catherine, with seven degrees, to Saint John the Russian, a porter. The issue, then, is not what a person is outwardly, what credentials he possesses, or what the world thinks of him. Every person in this world has a heart, and Christ...

makes the human heart His throne. That is why, even in the Old Testament, He insistently asks for the heart through the writer of Proverbs: “My son, give Me your heart.” As I was saying, most of us have a mistaken view of monasticism. Most of us are not capable of living it, but we must not condemn it in the persons of those who are.

It is not given to everyone to become a monk, just as it is not given to everyone to become a martyr. These are gifts, talents that God, in His foreknowledge, gives to people. And so, even today—without having to turn back and look only at the past—we see people from every level of society who have put on the monastic habit.

The world does not measure up to monasticism, for, as Paul writes in Hebrews, “the world was not worthy.” I repeat: the world is not worthy of this institution, of this angelic schema. Yet it ought to have recognized how much it needs monasticism. Many people often turn to monasticism and find answers to their needs, solutions to their questions, and rest from their troubling logismoi—the intrusive thoughts that trouble the heart. I do not know whether you are aware of it, but there are people who correspond with the Holy Mountain about their problems, and from time to time they come here to visit the Fathers, as they are called, and receive answers to the many issues the world presents.

When something is beyond our reach, we should not have the audacity to condemn it simply because we cannot attain it. In an athletic stadium, we may not be able to jump even one meter, yet we applaud the person who can jump five, because he possesses that ability. Monasticism, then, is something divine, something angelic, and it greatly benefits mankind. If we cannot offer the blood or the money it may require, then at least we should offer words in its support. Wherever we may be, we should say, “Gentlemen, we are treating unjustly an institution whose heights we ourselves were not made to attain.” Perhaps I am among those who will yield thirty percent, not among those who will yield sixty or a hundred percent. Yet it is true that many people...

praise monasticism, applaud monasticism, and speak well of monasticism, but they do not follow its example. If, for instance, a child comes forward and says, “Father, I am going there,” every possible obstacle will be raised to stop him. His father does not want it. We take a position that reveals our inconsistency: on the one hand we say yes, but when we are called to act, we say no. We do not insult these monastics or others who are able to go. We applaud and help them. We ourselves cannot make someone a monk, but neither should we tear him down when Another is forming him, when Christ Himself is calling him. We must understand this. The world was waiting for the hour when the Holy Mountain would finally be abandoned.

It had the coffin ready to gather up the whole of monasticism, display it as a museum exhibit at the Lavra, and perhaps someday put it aboard a rotten ship and sink it in the Aegean. Yet, as we see today—and we are obliged to acknowledge it—the Most Holy Theotokos has proved all of them wrong. Today the Holy Mountain is being repopulated, not by random people, but by serious and accomplished people. Today we could gather many academic degrees on the Holy Mountain—the very qualifications that people generally extol in our age. Yet it is evident that these people found no nourishment for their souls in such things. Their degrees could not satisfy them. They left everything and came to the feet of the Most Holy Theotokos. More generally, as Greeks,

this is something in which we ought to take pride. We do not understand it. We are ignorant of it, and we bear a certain responsibility because we have not been willing to examine it closely. As Greeks, beloved—and I do not say this out of pride, but because it is a reality—we have a mission. Hellenism has always played a great role. Everything possessed by those abroad who now present themselves as our teachers, and everything for which we travel to the West seeking illumination, was taken from what was ours. It went forth from here during the four hundred years when we lived in bondage, when our scholars departed and carried that illumination to the West. And today we go there and bring it back from them. We must take this very seriously.

It is not that we are made from different earth; rather, we have a different mission. We are the new Israel. Just as there was the old Israel, the Hebrews, so today Hellenism is the new Israel—Hellenism, not Christianity alone. Christ has a special affection for the Greek people. If we read the texts of the New Testament, we find that He was deeply moved and spoke with great fervor when those Greeks came to Him on the eve of His Passion: “Now the hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.” And elsewhere He said that the Kingdom would be taken from them and given “to a nation”—in the singular, not “to the nations”—to a particular nation that would bear its fruits. That nation is the Greek people, whether we wish to believe it or not. Our leaders, both in the Church and in the State, are already beginning to understand this. This is the reality.

Regardless of what the world is doing or how it thinks, and regardless of whether outwardly it is for or against Greece, the plan is unfolding and being carried out. If we have eyes, we should see that we shall once again play a role after the great catastrophe that is coming upon humanity—a catastrophe we ourselves are bringing about because we have departed from God. But have we made any progress in acquiring a truly Greek Christian mind? We know what is happening on the moon, yet we do not know what is happening twenty-two centimeters inside our own breast, where the publican once struck himself as he stood before Christ. I say, then, that the will of God shall be done. Some of us—myself, for example—may by then have passed into the reserves. But many among us will see this: Hellenism will distinguish itself and will be called once again, with the Holy Mountain as its foundation,

together with all the holy shrines and the holy people hidden in the depths of life, to proclaim the Gospel and to proclaim Christ to the millions of people who still worship snakes, cows, stars, and seas. We have a mission. Do not give way to defeatism; do not be afraid. Fear only one thing: sin, which binds the hands of Christ and the hands of the Most Holy Theotokos and prevents man from receiving mercy. When we come up here to this upper room radiant with grace, to the Holy Mountain, we should feel burdened by a hundred and fifty tons of our sins. It is impossible for a person living amid the soot-covered trucks, amid this Babylon—whether it is called Athens, where we live, Thessaloniki, or any other city—not to carry sins and a heavy burden.

Yet when we are granted the opportunity to come up here, where there are so many ways and so many spiritual steps, it is a terrible thing to take those sins back with us when we leave. When we arrive, the boats ought to creak beneath the weight of our sins; but when we depart, we should be light. In this sense, when we cleanse ourselves, we open the way and allow the hands of God to lavish grace, forbearance, and protection upon us. No one will help or protect us unless Christ protects us. No power on earth—not Russia, not America, not the whole world—can do anything to us, but neither can any of them help us. If Christ withdraws His hand, we shall perish in a single night. But if Christ and the Most Holy Theotokos place their hand over us,

we shall prevail, whether we understand it or not. I do not know to whom I am speaking, nor do I know the thoughts of each person. We all have our own thoughts and opinions. May every suspicion, and everything that gave occasion for these words to be spoken by a sinful man for the sake of the Saint and the holy elder, be dispelled. And if these words are right, then wherever we may be, let us tell others what is happening today on the Holy Mountain. It is happening not because particular people desire it, but because the Most Holy Theotokos desires it. And so long as she desires it, we are all powerless to prevent it, whatever opinion we may hold. Yet the grace of God does not intervene in people by force; it does not compel them. You know that God has given us free will, and today it is this free will that even prevails over God Himself.

Tomorrow it may bring each of us before the judgment seat, but today the saying remains in force: “He who created you without you cannot save you without you.” In other words, He who created you without asking you cannot save you without your consent. Let us thank God for the spiritual rebaptism, this renewal we feel whenever we come here. A monk, for example, may even be a sinful monk, but he is not an unbeliever. Observe closely even the most corrupt, inconsistent, and unsuccessful monk. In matters of faith, you will find him Orthodox. And those of us who come from the outside should not imagine that we are coming into Paradise.

We are coming into the garden of the Most Holy Theotokos, and there are holy people here who have not made themselves known to us. Virtuous people do not stand at the kiosk and tell you, “I possess virtue.” The truest virtue is hidden. We are coming to a hospital. Those who left their homes and villages and came to the Holy Mountain, whether from Greece or from abroad, were sick as well. When you enter and visit a hospital, you find sick people who have come to be healed—some with grave illnesses and others with milder ones. We should therefore be lenient toward anything that our own reason or supposed holiness finds unacceptable, because this is precisely how things are. How greatly God tolerates us who live corrupt lives out in the world! These people here are struggling, even if some are still newly admitted patients. We must advance together: they praying for us, and we struggling alongside them, so that all of us together—with Christ as our leader and ourselves following Him—

and with the Most Holy Theotokos, our Champion and Defender, as our commander-in-chief, may fulfill our calling: as human beings, that our souls may be saved; and as a nation and a people, that Hellenism and Orthodoxy may be spread throughout the whole world. And if we do not see this with our earthly eyes, we shall soon see it with our spiritual eyes, so that God may be glorified and our souls may be saved.

Forgive me, and may God forgive you.

Δεν υπάρχουν, κι αν συζητούνται, συζητούνται απλώς ιστορικώς. Δεν συγκινούν, δεν έχουν τη δύναμη τα ονόματά τους και η ζωή τους να παραδειγματίσουν και να βοηθήσουν και να χειραγωγήσουν άλλους στην αιωνιότητα. Οποιοσδήποτε κι αν είναι ο άνθρωπος εις τον κόσμο, μεγάλο όνομα και αν κατακτήσει, εφόσον δεν θα φέρει τη σφραγίδα του Ιησού, ο χρόνος θα τον απαλείψει, θα τον σβήσει. Όποιος όμως, οσοδήποτε άσημος και αν είναι εις τον κόσμο, φέρει τη σφραγίδα του Ιησού, έχει την αντοχή να περάσει στην αιωνιότητα. Τι του χρειαζόταν ο Χριστός, του εν προκειμένω Αγίου, του Ιατρού Παντελεήμονος; Τι του χρειαζόταν; Σήμερα οι άνθρωποι καυχώνται, οι επιστήμονες, στην επιστήμη τους. Στηρίζονται εις αυτήν και προβάλλουν αυτήν. Και εμείς στεκόμαστε πάντοτε και ρωτούμε: Τι πανεπιστήμιο έχει βγάλει αυτός; Τι δίπλωμα έχει βγάλει αυτός;

Είναι η εντολή, να γίνουμε Άγιοι. Μα εγώ το χώμα, η λάσπη, εγώ ο χοϊκός να γίνω Άγιος, Θεός; Ναι, έλα που Αυτός το θέλει. Τι μου ταπεινολογείς; Έλα που το θέλει Αυτός. Εφόσον το θέλει Αυτός, τι είναι από κει και κάτω που σε στενοχωρεί εσένα;

Τι είναι εκείνο που σε εμποδίζει, όταν Αυτός ήρθε και σου λέει: «Εγώ θα σε κάνω Θεό»; «Θα σε βάλω δίπλα μου, θα συμβασιλεύσεις με εμένα, θα μένεις κοντά μου. Πηγαίνω να ετοιμάσω τόπο και γυρίζω να σε πάρω». Γιατί παρεξηγείσαι; Γιατί ταπεινολογείς; Γιατί δεν αποδέχεσαι την τιμή; Δεν μπορείς να το συλλάβεις, σου έρχεται ιλιγγώδες, και εντούτοις αυτό είναι. Αυτό είναι. Εξήτασες ποτέ τον εαυτό σου να δεις τι σ’ έχει φτιάξει;
