Summary
In the second talk on churchgoing Dimitrios Panagopoulos treats the temple as the house of God and the harbour of the soul. Right attendance asks preparation, attention, prayer, and a real longing to take part. The Church is the new ark, the hospital of souls, and the common household where Christians meet Christ, the saints, and one another; Paul calls her the house of the living God and the pillar of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15), and Jacob's ladder figures her as the ascent to heaven (Genesis 28:10-22). Following Saint John Chrysostom he reminds hearers that clergy and chanters labour on their behalf, and he describes the temple as a foretaste of Paradise nourished by the Gospels, the Epistles, and the Prophets. Parents are urged to make church and Communion a habit from earliest childhood.
