Summary
Continuing on the Eucharist, Dimitrios Panagopoulos treats the manna of Exodus 16 as a figure of Christ. Israel's passage through the sea and its wandering become an image of the baptised Christian's journey toward Paradise; though the people forgot their deliverance and complained of hunger, God answered with quail at evening and manna each morning. The command to gather only the day's need taught trust in providence, and the double portion before the Sabbath taught obedience and sacred rest. That every gathered measure sufficed equally prefigures the Eucharist, where each communicant receives the whole Christ whatever the visible portion. Manna kept against the command spoiled, while the Sabbath portion remained sound: blessing follows obedience, not anxious accumulation. The manna preserved in the golden vessel he reads as Christ borne by the Theotokos.
